Resume Writing Class

The Missouri Career Center will be offering a Resume Preparation class.  The course will help job seekers prepare a quality resume for their individualize job search needs.  This workshop will be offered on the following dates:

    • December 27th at 1pm
    • December 28th at 11am
    • December 28th at 2pm
Customer wanting to attend the workshop should sing up with a staff member.  Space is limited to 20 individuals.  The course is free!!  All customers must complete the NGCC welcome process prior to attending the workshop.  For more information contact Kim or Karri at (660) 582-8980.

Interviewing with Confidence

The Career Center in Maryville will be offering Interviewind with Confidence.  This workshop will assist job seekers with preparing for interviews.  The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • How to answer tough questions
  • What questions to ask during and interview
  • How to research the organization you are interviewing with
  • How to dress for an interview
  • and more!!!

Green Jobs Summit December 16th

On Wednesday, December 16th, the Northwest Green Jobs Taskforce will be hosting a Green Jobs Summit in St. Joseph.  The Green Jobs Summit is an opportunity for business leaders, economic development and workforce development professionals and community organizations to learn more about the green jobs industry in northwest Missouri.  The event, sponsored by the Northwest Workforce Investment Board, is scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature the release of data from the recently completed Green Jobs Occupational Survey.

The Summit will include two seminars on renewable energy.  Kansas City Power & Light (KC P & L) will be presenting on the company’s plans to ensure that wind, solar and biomass resources are available in the region, as cost effective energy alternatives while also improving the environment. Area leaders will also have an opportunity to learn from North Central Missouri College about the Wind Energy Technician training program and other green training efforts being developed by the community college.


Attendees of the summit will have the opportunity to tour the Remington Nature Center as part of this free event.  Individuals interested in attending the Green Jobs Summit can register at www.greenjobsummit.eventbrite.com by December 14th.

Focus Workforce Management to Provide Contract Labor to Kawasaki

GED and AEL Brush-up Classes to Be Offered at Career Center

The Adult Education and Literacy Program will begin offering GED and Skills Brush-up classes at the Maryville Career Center starting November 1st.  Classes will be held on Tuesday mornings (8:30am to 11:30am) and Wednesday afternoons (12:30pm to 2:30pm).  Sessions will last for seven (7) weeks.  These classes will be great for individuals who are working on their GED or to brush up their skills if they are planning to go back to school or take the WorkKeys Assessments.  For more information or to register for classes please contact a member of the Career Center staff.

Career Center in Maryville Begins Offering MissouriConnections

The popular online education and career planning resource for Missouri students is now available to adult job-seekers as well, at no cost!!!

“Missouri’s workforce system is happy to join with DESE in making MissouriConnections available to all job seekers,” said the Division of Workforce Development Director Julie Gibson. “This innovative online resource will make a powerful complement to MissouriCareerSource.com in helping Missourians develop the skills for productive careers of the future.”

MissouriConnections has several features that will assist job-seekers with their job search or return to school to upgrade their skills. 

One of the enhanced features in the new system is “Reality Check,” a robust budgeting tool to help users identify the lifestyle they hope to enjoy and the earning levels that can support that lifestyle.

A highly valued feature of the comprehensive system is the ability for users to take online assessments to identify possible careers based on interests, skills and work values. 

For students, another key feature is the ability to maintain a multi-year personal plan of study that helps them map out a path to their education and career goals.

Basic Computer Classes to be Offered

The Missouri Career Center in Maryville will be offering basic computer classes next week.  Classes will cover basic terminology, parts of a computer and how to get around various computer applications.  This class is designed for the absolute beginner.  Each class is an hour long. The best part is it is FREE!!!!!!!!!!!  Class size is limited to 10 people per session.  Dates and times for the classes are as follows:

October 14th at 9am

Career Counselor Position Open at Career Center in Maryville

New Service Promotion of the Week

This week staff at the Missouri Career Center in Maryville will be promoting the Work Ready Missouri program.  Work Ready is a program designed to assist individuals receiving Unemployment Insurance with accessing occupational training through local businesses in a job shadowing/work experience format.    The program allows the individual to job shadow and gain work experience (unpaid) for up to 24 hours and still receive their unemployment for up to 6 weeks.  Individuals will also be eligible for a gas stipend while participating.  There is a possibility that after the 6 weeks is completed the individual could be hired by the business as an employee.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who in unemployed to maintain their connection to the workforce and broaden their network of contacts.  They will all gain experience and valuable skills that can be added to their resume.

SMX to Take Applications at Career Center in September

Staff Managment Express (SMX) will be taking applications for temporary production work at Energizer in Maryville on Wednesdays (September 15, 22, and 29) from 5-7pm.  Interested individuals can visit the Missouri Career Center to complete an application.  No applications are given out past 6:30pm.  Please have customers plan at least 30 to 45 minutes to complete the application process.

New Service Promotion of the Week

MCC staff have noticed that many of our customers do not have basic typing or computer skills that are necessary to take advantage of many of the services of the Career Center.  For the next week and a half we will be promoting to all customers a typing tutor called Type Faster.  It has basic touch keyboarding lessons that many of us experienced when we were learning to type.  It also has some games to help keep the learning fun.  This software is available on two computers in the resource area for customers to use.  Please feel free to promote this service to your customes to use in the resource area if they need to learn or increase their speed.

Kawasaki to Take Applications a the Plant

Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing will taking applications at the plant several days next week.  Interested individuals need to take copies of their high school or GED transcripts with them to apply.  We would suggest they plan at least 45 minutes to complete the application process.  Dates and times Kawasaki will be taking applications are listed below:

September Calendars Posted for Partner and Conference Room Office Space

Missouri Career Center in Maryville Has New Hours of Operation

The Missouri Career Center in Maryville on July 1st implemented new hours of operation for the general public to access services!  The Missouri Career Center is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Friday from 9am to 4:30pm.

Maryville Career Center Blog

On July 9th, the Missouri Career Center in Maryville opened under a new service model!  The Next Generation Career Center (NGCC) model is being implemented across the State of Missouri.  One feature of the NGCC model will be that more services will be open to assist job seekers to assist with developing and refining their skills sets to help them regain employment.  This blog is a tool for all Career Center partners to learn about services available at the Career Center, learn about partner services and other news that will help us serve our customers.  Please sign up for alerts from the blog, post items that will help us serve customers including information about services your organization can provide to help our customers!
