Columbus Day

The Missouri Career Center will be closed on Monday October 10th in observance of Columbus Day.  The Career Center will reopen on October 11th at 8:30am and resume normal business hours.

Missouri Career Center and SMX to Host Job Fairs

The Missouri Career Center is partnering with SMX to fill needed contract labor positions at Energizer in Maryville. They offere12 hour and 6 hour shifts. We will be hosting a job fair in Rock Port on Tuesday, October 11th from 10am to 1pm. If you are interested please stop by and see us.  Job Fairs will also be held in Albany at the Community Center on Rigney from 9am to 1pm on October 13th and Oregon at the Univeristy of Missouri Extension Office from 10 am to 1pm on October 18th!!!

Workshops Open to Missouri Career Center Members

The Missouri Career Center in Maryville will be offering the following workshops in March:

Exploring Career Options with Missouri Connections-March 28th from 1 to 3pm
Are you having difficulty finding job leads in your career field?  Are you unsure of what other jobs you might be qualified to do?  Do you wanting to change jobs or your career?  Missouri Connections can help you determine what other career and job options you have the skills for or interest in doing?

How to Properly Complete Applications-March 31st 2:30-4pm
Do you know how to properly fill out an application?  Do you have all the information you need to complete a job?   Do you know how to complete an Internet application? 

Easy Résumés and Cover Letters with Optimal Résumé-March 23rd from 9am to 11am.
Do you need a professional resume but are not sure how to create one?  The Missouri Career Center has a NEW product called Optimal Résumé that makes creating professional résumés and cover letters easy!!  Come learn the basics of resume and cover letters as well as how to create your own using Optimal Résumé. 

Ace the Interview-March 24th from 2 to 4pm
Does interviewing for a job make you nervous???  Are you interviewing for jobs but not getting any job offers?  Ace the Interview will discuss how to prepare for an interview, the common questions asked in an interview, acceptable questions to ask the interviewer, and what to do after the interview.  Those attending the workshop will have the opportunity to mock interview with a Missouri Career Center staff member for practice. 

Networking Today-March 28th 9:30am to 11am
One key to finding a job is your ability to network and uncover the hidden job market!!  Find out how to network with friend, family and utilize social media to expand your job opportunities!!!

Computers for Beginners-March 29th 9am to 10:30am
Do you know how to use a mouse?  Open, close and save a document?  Perform a search on the Internet? Or how to search for jobs using MissouriCareeSource.com? If not, then this workshop is for you!

The Missouri will on April 1st from 9am to 4pm off all 5 job search workshops in one day.  All classes and products mentioned are free to customers through their Missouri Career Center membership.  Space is limited!!!  If you have customers who are interested please have them call and register with a staff member at 660-582-8980.

Veterans Job Fair & Career Expo Scheduled for April 6th!

2011 Career Fair and Resource Fair Scheduled for April 19th in St. Joseph

The 2011 Career and Resource Fair will take place on April 19th from 2:00-5:00pm at the St.Joseph Civic Arena.  This free event is the largest career resource fair in Northwest Missouri.  Area employers and educational institutions will be on hand to talk about job openings and educational opportunities in Northwest Missouri!

Northwest Missouri Green Jobs Outlook and Guide to Green Jobs Available

The Northwest Missouri Green Jobs Outlook Report and Northwest Missouri Guide to Green Jobs brochure are now available at the Missouri Career Center.  The Northwest Missouri Green Jobs Outlook details the findings of Green Jobs Occupational Survey conducted by the Northwest Green Jobs taskforce in October and November of last year. 

The Northwest Missouri Guide to Green Jobs details the outlook of green jobs in Northwest Missouri including the fastest growing and green jobs with the most openings.  Green Jobs educational information is also available in the brochure.

Both documents were funded through a Green Jobs Grant by the Northwest Workforce Investment Board of Missouri and the Missouri Economic Research and Information Committee and are available in PDF format.

Missouri and Northwest Career Outlook for 2018 Brochures Now Available

The Missouri Career Center has received the Missouri Career Outlook and Northwest Missouri Career Outlook Brochures naming the Top 50 jobs through 2018.  Please feel free to stop by the Career Center and pick one up or visit www.missourieconomy.org!

Optimal Resume

Optimal Resume is now available to Missouri Career Center customers through their MissouriCareerSource.com account.  Optimal Resume is a new tool that will allow job seekers to create a professional looking resume and cover letters.  Once their account is created they will be able to create a resume using a blank document or a format based on the type of work they are applying for.  The templates create the style of the resume and give sample job descriptions and job duties that can be edited.  The resume can then be saved and shared in a variety of formats including plain text and html.  Optimal resume also has the ability for customers to create a video, portfolio and website to use in their job search.  To access Optimal Resume customers must log in to their MissouriCareerSource account.  A blue Optimal Resume link will appear above the job search tabs.

First Student to Take Applications on February 22nd in Mound City

First Student, the bus service for Mound City, Craig and Oregon school districts will be taking applications for part-time bus drivers on February 22nd.  The hiring event will take place at the Super 8 from 9:30am to 1:30pm.  Interested individuals should be able to pass a drug screening and background check.  First Student will assist individuals hired with training and licensing as part of the job.

The State Parks Youth Corp is gearing up to help young Missourians ages 17-21 gain work skills, experience Missouri's beautiful outdoors and put money in their pockets.  Governor Nixon is bringing back the popular program that will employ hundreds of young Missourians in Missouri state parks and historic sites through the state.  Young Missourians will be able to earn cash while building trails, leading tours, excavating historical sites, designing marketing campaigns and much more. 

Important Note:  The State Park Youth Corps slots are limited and there will be income eligibility requirements (posted on website).  Apply on-line early.  Visit Mo.gov today to check out the website, watch the video and apply!

University of Missouri Extension to Provide Workshop

Dislocated Workers will have the opportunity to attend the University of Missouri Extension's Career Options workshop on January 20th from 9am to 4pm at the Missouri Career Center in Maryville.  The workshop will cover the following:
  • Get a letter-quality job-winning resume (with a new slant)
  • Writing a dynamic cover letter that will get you noticed
  • Learning how to "get" the interview and  how to "clinch" it.
  • Writing a thank-you note that could make the difference.
  • Defining transferable skill to make the most impact in getting a job.
